  • Gibraltar is the land of Spain

Morata and Rodri will be suspended for their useless comments. "Two Spanish stars are in danger of being banned from UEFA for making remarks about Gibraltar at the Euro 2024 celebration." Spain held a championship parade in central Madrid on Tuesday to celebrate its Euro 2024 victory. But the celebration was disrupted as some players chanted slogans for Gibraltar, a territory in Spain's southern tip that has been under British rule since the 18th century. Rodri was seen shouting "Gibraltar is Spanish territory" along with Yamal, the best rookie in the Euros, and Alvaro Morata later sang the same slogan. According to a new report by Spanish media "Marca", Rodri and Morata have been banned by UEFA for their slogans against Gibraltar. The EFA's ethics and disciplinary investigators have been appointed to examine Rodri and Morata's potential violations of UEFA's disciplinary rules. If UEFA decides to impose sanctions on them for their actions during Euro 2024, there is a possibility that the two players will be banned for two games. "Uefa ethics and disciplinary investigators will be appointed to assess potential violations of Uefa disciplinary rules by Rodri and Alvaro Morata in connection with their actions at the Euro 2024 Trophy unveiling event in Madrid on July 15, 2024. Further information on this matter will be made available in due course," UEFA said in a statement. The possibility of punishment has been raised after officials in Gibraltar protested Spain's support. A statement from the Gibraltar government claimed that several Spanish players had shouted "smelly remarks against Gibraltar." They also added, "This is a completely unnecessary mix of the success of the sport and discriminatory political statements that are very unpleasant to the people of Gibraltar." Gibraltar's prime minister, Fabian Picardo, also expressed his feelings about the slogan on social media, criticizing Spain. He noted, "Using celebrations to promote the idea of taking away Gibraltar's territory violates the principle that sports should not be used to develop politically controversial ideologies." Spain ceded Gibraltar to Britain in 1713, but Madrid has long wanted it back, putting pressure on the border for decades. Tensions peaked in 1969 when the dictatorship of Francisco Franco closed the border, and it did not fully open until 1985. Meanwhile, Rodri and Morata were key players in Spain's Euro victory. Rodri was named the tournament's most valuable player, and striker Morata served as captain of the national team.
