Design and Development of a Lighter-Than-Air Wind Energy System
5th Year Group Project: This project developed a prototype with the objective of proving that higher altitude wind generation is feasible. This has resulted in three main objectives being met: being able to generate and transfer power from the air to the ground, being able to lift the turbine and being able to control the system. These aims were met through extensive testing in the university wind tunnel, a field test and laboratory work; and were demonstrated at a trade show. The project and report were very successful and we achieved a distinction mark for our efforts.
