Is the chief coach to assist Vietnamese coach Kim Sang-sik
The Vietnam Football Association announced on its official channel on Tuesday that it has appointed Choi as the national team's chief coach. The terms and conditions of the contract will be closed to the public through mutual agreement. Choi will coach Kim Sang-sik, who recently took the helm, and Vietnam's A team and the U-23 team. Choi, who transformed into a leader after playing as a playing coach in 2016 after playing for FC Seoul, Jeju United, and Daegu, took over as acting Daegu coach in August 2022 and was promoted to the official head coach in November. Last season, he led Daegu to Final A (1st to 6th place), but this season he voluntarily resigned on the 19th of last month due to his poor early performance. Choi said, "It is a great honor to work on the foundation that our seniors Park Hang-seo and Lee Young-jin have created. I am also grateful to the Vietnam Football Association for giving me the opportunity." "I've thought there's a vision for the Southeast Asian soccer market for a long time, and I'm happy and excited to get out of Korea and challenge a new soccer market," he said, adding, "I'll do my best to help coach Kim Sang-sik so that Vietnamese soccer can fly again."
