そのご縁から、このたび初めての試みとして、海外インターンとしてコロンビア大学で学ばれるアレックスさんをお迎えしました。

約1か月間、アレックスさんはコーポレート部とソリューション推進室でインターンを体験。
数学専攻のバックグラウンドを活かし、コーポレート部では売上予測の分析を、ソリューション推進室ではMATLABと当社が扱うAutomation Studio™ との連携を取り組んでくださいました。

さらに、期間中に行われたITOファミリーデーでは、社員のお子さん向けに英語ゲームを企画・実施し、子どもたちと楽しく交流してくれました。
アレックスさんは、常に前向きで明るく、誠実にインターンシップに取り組み、その姿勢は社員にも大きな刺激を与えてくれました。

Japan has always been special to me.
Since my first visit to Hokkaido in 2011, it has become a cherished family tradition to travel to Japan every year. Ever since then, I have been actively seeking ways to deepen my connection with Japan. More than ten years later, although I am now a math major, I continue to look for opportunities to engage with Japanese culture—whether through taking Japanese language and history courses, or by working part-time at the Center on Japanese Economy and Business (CJEB) at Columbia University.

Among my experiences, ITO stood out to me in three important ways.

1. Broad Impact – From vibrator parts in mobile phones to wind power generation equipment, ITO’s products and services play an essential role in people’s everyday lives.
2. Diversity and Sustainability – The company’s commitment to welcoming people from diverse backgrounds and its dedication to environmental sustainability were major reasons why I knew I wanted to work here.
3. Commitment to Innovation – Whether it is the use of battery technology to counter rising energy costs, or the automation of labor-intensive transportation processes, ITO is always striving toward the future.

When I learned about the opportunity to intern at ITO, there was only one question I needed to ask myself: “When can I start?” You may still be wondering where my excitement comes from, but I hope that by the time you finish reading this, the reasons will be clear—and perhaps you may even share some of my enthusiasm for ITO.

One of the primary goals at CJEB is to promote knowledge and understanding of Japanese business systems. In this regard, ITO is undoubtedly at the very core of Japan’s advanced manufacturing sector. What impressed me most was ITO’s strong focus on mechatronics—the integration of mechanical and electrical engineering—and how it applies this expertise to provide everything from familiar mobility devices to high-tech equipment and efficient automation business solutions across a wide range of industries, including large-scale infrastructure projects and factory assembly lines. This places ITO right at the center of both Japan’s world-class engineering and its industrial landscape.

Ito has expanded beyond its domestic operations into Thailand and China, reflecting its potential and strong position in the Asian market.

Yet despite this global expansion, Ito has never forgotten its founding spirit. Starting in postwar Tokyo manufacturing motors and clutches, the company achieved a rebirth 60 years later known as its “second founding.” Seventy years after its establishment, it remains proud to honor tradition while pursuing new ideas and providing customers with cutting-edge solutions. This stance is clearly expressed in its corporate philosophy: “Creating value for customers through new ideas.”

What particularly impressed me about Ito was its long-term perspective: nurturing future successors while upholding its founding principles. This balance of respecting tradition while preparing for the future lies at the core of Japan's business system, and I have always sought to learn from such companies.

It is an honor to have learned from Ito, a company that draws strength from past traditions while preparing for the future.
Ito Corporation transcends mere traditional connotations. Each employee finds their place here as a member of Ito.
