今回は、イギリスのロンドン出身でシステムエンジニアとして働くデイビッドさんにインタビューをしました！　

入社して約4ヶ月、エンジニアとしてのスキルはもちろんのこと、日本語力にもますます磨きをかけています。日本で働こうと思ったきっかけや数ある企業からLiNewを選んだ理由、お仕事についてお話してもらいました！

This time we interviewed David, who is from London, England, and works as a system engineer!　

It's been about 4 months since he joined LiNew, and he has been improving not only his skills as an engineer, but also his Japanese language skills. We asked him to tell us what made him decide to work in Japan, why he chose LiNew out of many companies, and about his job!　　　　

ーデイビッドさんの出身地について教えてください。

　/　Please tell us about David's hometown.

出身はイギリスのロンドンです。日本に来るまでは、ずっとイギリスで暮らしていました。

ロンドンは曇りの日が多いので、日本で曇りの日だとロンドンを思い出します！

I’m from London, England. I lived in England all my life until I came to Japan.

London has many cloudy days, so when it is cloudy in Japan, I am reminded of London!

ーどうしてエンジニアの道を選んだのですか？

　/ Why did you choose to become an engineer?

学生の時の好きな分野は、理科や数学といった理数科目でした。論理的な思考が求められることが好きだったんです。

ロンドンでは銀行窓口やデジタルマーケティングなどの職種を経験しましたが、23歳の時に自分の他の道を発見したいと思いました。自分の将来のキャリアを考えた時に、役に立つスキルを身に付けたいと思いプログラマーになろうと決心しました。

My favorite area of study as a student was science and math subjects such as science and math. I liked anything that required logical thinking.

In London, I worked in positions such as bank teller and digital marketing, but when I was 23 years old, I wanted to discover other avenues for myself. When I thought about my future career, I decided to become a programmer because I wanted to acquire useful skills.

ー日本に来たいと思ったきっかけは何ですか？

　/ What made you want to come to Japan?

イギリスで過ごしている時にふと、今の生活にもやもやを感じていました。他の国で色々な経験をしてみたいと思いました。最初はオーストラリアでワーキングホリデーをしようかと思いましたが、言語や文化はイギリスとあまり変わらないため、大きな環境の変化を求めました。

高校生の時に日本に来たことがあり良い思い出であり好きになったので、日本で働こうと思いました。

異国の地で1人で生きることで、自分自身を成長させたいと思いました。

When I was in England, I felt frustrated with the life I was leading. I wanted to experience life in another country. At first, I thought about doing a working holiday in Australia, but since the language and culture are similar to the UK, I wanted a more significant change of environment.

I decided to work in Japan because I had visited Japan when I was in high school and had good memories from my experience.

In essence, wanted to develop myself by living alone in a foreign country.

ーLiNewを選んだ理由は？  /   Why did you choose LiNew?

LiNewのWantedlyプロフィールを見た時、他の会社よりも世界を見据えてグローバルに成長しようとしていると思いました。カジュアル面談でお話した時にも、エネルギーに満ち溢れた様子を感じました。

この場所でエンジニアとしてのスキルと日本語のコミュニケーションスキルを成長させたいと強く思い、ジョインしました。

When I saw LiNew's Wantedly profile, I thought they were trying to grow globally and had a more global perspective than other companies. When I spoke with them during a casual interview, I sensed that it was a positive and energetic company.

I joined LiNew because I strongly wanted to develop both my skills as an engineer and my Japanese communication skills.

ー 現在の仕事内容について教えてください   /   What is your current job？

自社サービスのeducure(エデュキュア)を担当しています。

今のタスクはエンジニアメンバーの開発効率をあげるため、GitHub Actionsで自動テストできるようにテストコードを書くことです。

川田さんからeducureのプロダクトとしての流れを定期的に説明してもらい、システムについてより深く理解する機会もあります。日本語力の向上のために、週報を日本語と英語で書いて読み上げたり様々なスキルが日々成長していると感じています。

沢山新しいことを学んでいるので、大事なことはメモを残して確認することで、同じ間違いを繰り返さないようにしています。

I am working on one of our in-house services, called educure. Recently, I have been writing test code for automatic testing with GitHub Actions in order to improve the development efficiency of the engineering team. 

Kawata-san has been helping me to gain a deeper understanding of educure’s business logic and the architecture behind the application.To improve my Japanese language skills, I write and recite a weekly report in both Japanese and English, and I feel that my ability is growing week by week.

I’m learning a lot of new things, so I make sure to keep notes on important matters to help me retain information and avoid making the same mistakes.

ーLiNewの雰囲気はどうですか？　/  What is the atmosphere like at LiNew?

LiNewのメンバーはフレンドリーで話しやすいです。懇親会も定期的にあり、みんなと交流できるアクティビティがあるのが良いと思います。親しくなる機会があるのは嬉しいです。

みなさん仕事に真面目です。意見交換をする場面もあるので日本語のコミュニケーション能力は日々向上しています！

LiNew members are friendly and easy to talk to. I like that there are regular get-togethers and activities to socialize with everyone. It’s nice to have the opportunity to get to know each other!

Everyone is serious about their work, and it’s also an easy place to exchange opinions, so my Japanese communication skills are improving every day!

ー休日は何をしていますか？ /  What do you do on your days off?

友達と遊んだり、運動してリフレッシュしています。そして今はLiNewに入ってから4ヶ月の間で1番日本語の勉強をしています。ヒアリング力をもっと向上させていきたいです！

これからは寒くなるので温泉に行きたいです。イギリスには温泉がないので、日本に来て温泉に入った時はとても感動しました。

I like to relax by socialising with friends and exercising. I have prioritised Japanese study in the 4 months since I joined LiNew. I want to improve my listening ability the most!

As it’s getting colder, I want to visit the onsen more often. We don't have hot springs in England, so I was very impressed when I first came to Japan and took a bath in an onsen!
