John is a CEO of modelmap, a seed-stage software start-up in Silicon Valley as well as an independent financial modeler. His specialty is financial modelling in project finance, quantitative research and portfolio optimization. He started his career as a quantitative researcher in the second-largest investment bank in Japan, where he wrote the investment reports and presented quantitative investment strategies to hedge funds and asset managements. He moved to a global consulting firm and involved with wide range of private equity investments as a financial advisor. He left to go to business school and participated in entrepreneurial activities. For the majority of his career he has been located in Asia, specifically Japan. He now resides in Tokyo and fully-committed to driving the start-up company, Modelmap.
Our mission is to visualize all of economic flows and structures in the world. We simply analyze how everything works, connect each flow / structure and simulate how this world behaves.
We provide Modelmap as a first step. Modelmap is an enterprise application to automate most of the manual tasks occurring in the spreadsheet, such as exhausting research and developing formulas for financial models. Currently we are focusing on helping professional in the financial industry, such as investment bankers, business consultants or financial analysts.
Designed financial models mainly for PE firms, energy-investment companies and corporate managements under M&A, Project Financing, Business Recovery or other various transaction. In addition to modelling work, experience in the position including equity/asset valuation (fixed assets, financial assets, intangible assets) and Purchase Price Allocation.
Regarding experience as a manager, supported building an international team from scratch. Supported members from around the world and created diversified culture. Led all business development, including managing a pipeline of opportunities while executing projects and educating team members. Established close relationships with 1st-tier private equity firms in Japan. The revenue increased from $1 million to $3 million in 2 years.
