Hi, I’m Aoi Kainuma, a scuba diving instructor based in Okinawa, Japan.
The ocean is my workplace, my teacher, and sometimes, my quiet friend.
Born on Christmas Day in 1979, I’ve always felt a special connection to the sea —
a feeling of being alive through the ocean, not just living by it.
Every dive tells a different story.
The morning light filtering through the water,
the slow dance of a turtle,
the silence that speaks louder than words.
In this blog, I share moments from my diving life and island days —
the rhythm of tides, the kindness of the wind,
and the simple joy of breathing underwater.
Each post is a small note of gratitude
to the ocean that keeps me grounded, humble, and alive.
