As someone deeply passionate about 3D graphics design and the potential of the Metaverse, I was thrilled when I got the chance to join both the Meta Fellowship and the XR Open Source Fellowship (XROS). These fellowships provided me with an immersive experience, working on cutting-edge technology and actualizing projects that push the boundaries of extended reality (XR). I knew this was a unique opportunity to dive into the evolving domain of augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR), while contributing to Meta’s vision of building digital public goods for the Metaverse
The Meta and XROS Fellowship Projects During my time in the fellowships, I had the opportunity to work on a truly transformative project, the Smart Sewing Machine Maintenance Guide (SSMMG). The aim was to design an interactive HoloLens-based application that would assist workers in maintaining sewing machines using augmented reality. By simply wearing a HoloLens headset, users would see AR overlays and step-by-step instructions, guiding them through the entire process of machine upkeep, from cleaning and lubrication to troubleshooting.Working under the mentorship of Deepak Panghal and Rashmi Thakur from NIFT Delhi, I gained invaluable insights into both technical and industry-specific requirements. Their guidance was crucial in shaping our approach to creating a user-friendly AR experience. In addition to the HoloLens, we also leveragedMeta’s Impact on the Project
