食事を始めると、インスリンの分泌を促したりするペプチドホルモン群が分泌されます。アメリカドクトカゲの毒にはこれに似たタンパク質が含まれていて、長期間食事をとらなくても血糖値を維持できることが知られていますが、このタンパク質は糖尿病治療薬としても利用されています。

When you start eating, a group of peptide hormones that stimulate the secretion of insulin is secreted. The venom of the Gila monster contains a similar protein, which is known to help maintain blood sugar levels even after prolonged fasting. This protein is also used as a treatment for diabetes.
