What we do

Spiker Co., Ltd. is working on the development of an AI data analysis system for Cardiotocography (CTG) measurements, which are taken using obstetric monitoring devices as part of their IoT healthcare business. This system monitors fetal heartbeat and uterine contractions during childbirth. The company aims to utilize data from Africa, where the number of births is significantly higher compared to Japan, to construct an AI system that can be applied in advanced countries as well. Obstetric monitoring devices, abbreviated as CTG, are used to observe the well-being of fetuses by measuring their heartbeats and uterine contractions. These data are utilized during prenatal check-ups and throughout labor until delivery. Proper interpretation of the data requires medical professionals with specialized knowledge. The ongoing development of "Alert-Monitor" involves an AI-powered central monitoring software capable of physician-level data interpretation. The company's future goals include enhancing the accuracy and user interface of the data interpretation AI, making it a product that can be used in African hospitals facing numerous challenges in the healthcare domain. With the aid of the data interpretation AI, even hospitals with a shortage of medical personnel will be able to offer safe childbirths. By addressing social challenges and leveraging the significant data from Africa, they aim to develop advanced AI systems usable in developed countries as well. The release of this product is scheduled for early 2024. Through enabling as many pregnant women as possible to use this product, Spiker aims to contribute to the birth of healthy babies.

Why we do

Everyone wishes for babies to be born healthy.

95% of perinatal deaths occur in developing countries

■Increasing Healthy Cries of Newborns Worldwide■ What we aim to achieve is a world where everyone can give birth to a child with peace of mind. 【The Reality Surrounding New Lives】 Did you know that there are many lives unable to be born healthy into this world? Approximately 95% of perinatal deaths* occur in developing countries, resulting in the loss of 3.9 million babies annually. Among these, the situation is particularly severe in Africa. (*Perinatal deaths refer to fetal/neonatal deaths that occur between 22 weeks of pregnancy and 7 days after birth.) 【Can We Hear the Voice of the Fetus?】 This tragic reality is believed to be a consequence of the shortage of highly educated doctors and midwives. While Cardiotocography (CTG), commonly used in advanced countries, could be a solution, its high cost and the need for medical expertise and extended education for interpretation hinder its widespread adoption in developing nations. Moreover, a significant problem is the severe shortage of healthcare professionals in Africa compared to the number of patients. The ratio of healthcare providers to patients in Africa is one-tenth that of Japan. Even in hospitals where CTG has been introduced, there is a shortage of personnel to continuously monitor and care for fetal well-being. 【Saving Lives through Technology】 We believe that if we could hear the "voice of the fetus" in the form of data through CTG, we could provide appropriate care at the right time and hear the healthy cries of many more babies. With the support of AI, there would be no need for medical practitioners to undergo interpretation training. AI can assess situations requiring medical intervention, and healthcare professionals can be alerted accordingly. By promoting the adoption of this technology, which supports evidence-based diagnoses for healthcare professionals, we aim to contribute to the resolution of challenges concerning human lives.
